It’s that time of year and also time for another quiz. Halloween is the season of monsters and death and ghosts and skeletons and demons and scary clowns and also the only time I can get the Monster Cereals, all of which makes it my favorite holiday. The candy is just, er, the icing on the cake. And the cake filled with blood and entrails and releases bats and ravens and tarantulas and hideous creatures from another planet when you cut into it, but that’s another story.
For this particular quiz I reached into the darkest, deepest, most horrifying recesses of my subconscious–in other words to my childhood.

I am quizzical about how you and I managed to leave childhood, Chris, with such similar sets of knowledge.
Knowing that we both have such similar sets of knowledge makes looking back at my childhood much less frightening.
Hungry Hungry Hippos would make an epic horror movie. “They Hunger. And They’re Coming for Your Marbles.”
Working on the screenplay now. I will of course give you credit for the idea. I would say it’ll be even better than the film adaptation of Battleship, but that’s setting the bar too low.
Oh man, I was never good with quizzes.
And Chuck has a very good point.
The important thing is to have a good time. And Chuck’s idea really is brilliant. It’s even better than my movie idea for “Frosted Flakes”.
I badly want to play a rousing round of Uncle Wiggly.
We could all use a rousing game of Uncle Wiggly. It would take everyone’s mind off the Basket Case.
We’re handmaking an outdoor game called “Molkky” and I think it sounds damn scary — a cross between molest and murky. Bad bad things happen when you molkky. (Please tell me you have to look that up. It would make me happy).
Yes, I had to look it up. I’m not as well-versed on Finnish lawn games as you’d think. But since it’s from Finland I know a song you can sing when you play:
I can safely say I know all of these but one – Uncle Wiggly? That could go either way. Blind Man’s Buff – we always said ‘Bluff’, though it still doesn’t make any sense – could also be a good setting for a horror movie. Teenagers getting frisky in a car parked at (scary voice) BLIND MAN’S BLUFF, and then a supernatural hobo with no eyes comes out and starts stumbling around trying to find and murder them. And if not horror, horror comedy maybe?
When I was a kid we called it Blind Man’s Bluff too but Wikipedia says Buff which, now that I think about it, has some disturbing implications because “in the buff” means naked. Wow, now it sounds like a game about a naked blind man wandering around.
Anyway Uncle Wiggily is a board game based on a series of children’s books about a rabbit. Rabbits, of course, are harmless and wholesome family fun–at least for any kid who hasn’t read Watership Down or seen Monty Python & The Holy Grail.
