There’s something wonderful about those cool, foggy mornings when the world is hushed and spider webs glisten with dew drops, the lines of gossamer shining silver in the misty half-light. It’s magical and strange.
Have you ever wondered how the spiders feel about it?
So many unanswered questions–who’s Kevin? Why did spider drop out of college, and what was she (?) majoring in? Sounds like she has a checkered past and now I’m suspicious that this “vacation” was a front for some kind of flea powder smuggling activity. No wonder she doesn’t want to be seen…Lol.
And how do we know the spider’s a she? Well, generally speaking most web-builders are females, but that still doesn’t begin to answer all the other questions. There must be answers out there, but every answer just raises more questions. Isn’t that weird?

You crack me up. Exactly what drugs are you on and are they easily gotten?
It’s mainly a combination of feta cheese and cod liver oil right before I go to bed, so, yeah, they are easily gotten.
For every complainer I bet there’s another spider who’s like, “Oh man, this is AWESOME! My work’s been featured!”
When I was living in my tiny grad school dorm there was a large garden spider who rebuilt her web every night outside my window. She could have built the same old flat run-of-the-mill web you’d expect from any other spider, but this one always anchored hers in such a way that the overall shape entered the realm of the sculptural. Maybe her twisty-turny multifaceted webs caught more flies, or maybe she was on drugs, but from my side of the window all I could see was an artist.
They really are artists, and they even seem to have distinct personalities, even within the same species. Some are outgoing while others are shy. Although it’s also fun to me that every year I find a new one that’s built a web on an old TV antenna we have on our roof. I think they’re all related and I wonder if they pick up signals.
LOL, got me cracking up at this one! Around this time of year there is a spider (same one? Who knows?) that builds a web at night that attaches from the bushes in front of the house to several anchor points on my truck. I really feel bad when I have to drive off and destroy it. But he/she keeps rebuilding it every night. I’m actually doing that spider a favor, because if my wife were to encounter it when she leaves for work half an hour later, the flamethrower would come out.
That is doing the spider a favor, but doesn’t your wife realize that spider is eating worse pests like mosquitoes and flies? Yeah, she might be like my wife who doesn’t care. When we see a spider in the house I say, “Hey, it’s just a wolf spider, they’re harmless and eat bugs we don’t want in the house.” She says, “I don’t want it in the house.”
