I remember hearing when Gilda passed. I was so sad. I’m still sad, for her and for Gene Wilder.
I remember it too. I think it was hard for us who first saw her on Saturday Night Live as kids because she was so childlike. And I also felt sad for Gene Wilder whom I’ll always think of as Willy Wonka. And I know I’m not the only one. The silver lining is the Gilda’s Clubs that she founded. There’s one two blocks from where I work, and it was a source of comfort to think of how she approached her own cancer with a sense of humor.
I always hated it that she died so young. I always liked her so much. Every once in a while I like to refer to the way my hair looks in the summer humidity as “Roseanne Roseannadanna” hair. As I get older and older, people don’t always get the reference which is really depressing. So then I have to say, “Hagrid hair” and usually they get it. I guess I’m going to have to find a better way to describe my wild frizzy hair other than using TV or movie characters. How boring.
You could always call it Mr. Snuffleupagus hair. Hopefully people will always get that. A world where people no longer know who Mr. Snuffleupagus is a very sad world indeed.
Then again it’s also a sad world world when fewer and fewer people know who Roseanne Roseannadanna is. A few years ago I read something about Gilda’s Clubs changing their name because fewer and fewer people know who Radner was.
I think it’s important to keep her memory alive.
