Doing The Math.

So I was making a quick trip to the grocery store and passed a guy sitting at a bus stop. It’s a stop where I’ve, well, stopped, to catch the bus on my way to work, and I recognized the guy. We’ve never talked, but he’s frequently gotten on while I was getting off. Another time I’d be tempted to stop and offer him a ride. He uses a walker to get around and I’d be happy to shorten the distance he has to be on his feet, but I was only going a few blocks and right now maintaining social distance is difficult when someone’s in the passenger seat.

It got me thinking about how much I walk and with Google Earth I calculated that, most days of the week, I walk a little more than two miles. Or rather walked. My daily exercise dropped to almost nothing, not overnight, but at least overweekend. And as quarantine orders have been extended that’s become a concern for me. I’ve started a regimen of daily walking in the backyard. Well, “regimen” might be overstating it. I set out for about forty-five minutes in the morning and another three quarters of an hour in the afternoon, and then it occurred to me that I had no idea how far I was walking. So with the help of Google Earth again I figured that the distance from one end of the yard to the other is about fifty-two meters, or a little more than one-hundred and seventy feet, give or take a liter or two, and after some more math I figured out I’m walking just under two miles a day.

I really need to step it up. How are you getting in your exercise?

I’m getting my exercise going up and down stairs and walking outside near the ocean, maintaining social distancing and wearing a mask. I appreciate the beautiful beach video scored with “Classical Gas” by Mason Williams, which I listened to so many years ago that I can’t do the math. Thanks for doing the math for all of us, my friend.

I’ve found “Classical Gas” to be great walking music which is why I included it here even though we won’t be making our annual trip to the beach this year. I’m glad you’re getting plenty of exercise.

I feel like I am probably getting more exercise, because I get up and move around more during the day. Plus, I have more time to clean, and I am doing a lot more loading and unloading of the dishwasher. Plus, I am not eating fast food, so… I have to think I’m being a little healthier?

I think this may be making us all a little healthier. I’m not getting up and walking around as much as I think I did at work, but I’m starting to get on a more regular exercise routine. Plus stress burns calories.

A backyard backpacking trip sounds like a pretty good idea, especially if you have a fairly woody yard.

I haven’t gotten my exercise in months, so the virus hasn’t changed me a bit. 😉

I just hope you’re still getting in your weekly church services. Beer sales would plummet if you stopped.

That could be fun and could greatly expand the participation.
